ORIGEN: Escocia.
FUNCION ORIGINAL: Perro ovejero
 
Caracteristicas:
 
CUERPO: Es un perro esbelto pero sólido; el cuerpo es un poco mas largo que alto ( proporción aprox. 5:4). La espalda es plana y los lomos son fuertes. La cola de implantación baja y debe llegar como mínimo a los talones. El pecho es profundo y las costillas bien arqueadas, pero no en forma de tonel. Los hombros deben presentar inclinación hacia atrás. Cuartos delanteros rectos y de huesos fuertes. Los cuartos traseros son musculosos de corvejones pronunciados y talones bajos. Los pies son ovalados, de almohadillas fuertes y dedos arqueados y juntos. El cuello es relativamente largo y un poco arqueado.
CABEZA: Tiene un cráneo ancho, liso y cuadrado, es decir de igual medida de largo que de ancho. El hocico mide lo mismo que el cráneo, y el stop es relativamente profundo. Las orejas son largas y quedan colgantes. Los ojos están bastante separados y tienen una expresión vivaz e inquisitiva. La dentadura en tijera.
ALZADA: De 53-56 cm en el macho y 51-53 cm en la hembra.
PELAJE: Presenta dos capas; la superior es de pelo liso, duro y áspero; la inferior es espesa, lanosa y suave. No pierde el pelo ni la lana, lo que resulta muy limpio para convivir en el hogar.
COLOR: Negro, azul y marrón, poseen un factor decolorante, lo que lleva a diluir su color de nacimiento en tonos mas claros de negro, azul y marrón. Poseen manchas blancas , y estas solo deben aparecer en el hocico, la punta de la cola, el pecho, el cuello y las patas.
 
TEMPERAMENTO:
CARACTER: Alegre,  muy vivaz y lleno de vida, es un perro vigilante y muy seguro de si mismo. Es también muy inteligente, le gusta aprender y trabajar para y con su amo. Cariñoso, manso,  realmente encantador, es animal activo y entusiasta, nada torpe. Es todo un perro de familia, y no esta adaptado para vivir en una perrera ni fuera de casa.

COMPORTAMIENTO: Se lleva bien con todo el mundo por naturaleza, aunque no le exime de necesitar buena socialización. Suele ladrar cuando oye visitas y las recibe bulliciosamente, pero sin llegar a molestar.
 
CUIDADO GENERAL:
 
CEPILLADO: Es uno de los aspectos mas importantes de su cuidado: necesita cepillarse periódicamente para que no se enrede, pero depende también de la actividad que realice, y del lugar donde vive. Para exposiciones su cuidado debe ser mas frecuente y asesorarse con gente que se dedique a las mismas.
ADIESTRAMIENTO: Es inteligente y aprende rápido. Un acercamiento amistoso conseguirá los mejores resultados, a bases de juegos, un tono de voz jovial y elegios hacia su actitud. No lo presione, porque su buena disposición y receptividad pueden perderse.
EJERCICIOS: Es muy activo y vivaz, siempre dispuesto para cualquier clase de ejercicio, como paseos por el campo o la playa, donde no dudara en meterse al agua. Si a usted le gusta hacer footing lleve a su perro consigo, como tiene un pasado de perro pastor no se alejara de usted si le quita la correa

USOS:
Tradicionalmente ha trabajo como perro ovejero, pero  hoy se destaca en deportes caninos; pruebas de obediencia, de agility o de atrapar al vuelo, actualmente se lo esta haciendo trabajar de nuevo en sus orígenes, pruebas de herding. Es un perro muy adecuado para una familia que disfrute con el deporte y a la que no le importe cepillarlo a menudo.

Characteristics:
 
BODY: It is a slim but strong dog; the body is longer than it is high (approximate ratio of five to four). The back is level and the loins are strong. The tail is set low and is long enough to reach at least the point of the hocks. The chest is deep and the ribs are well sprung but not in a barrel-like shape. The shoulders must be well laid back. The forequarters are straight with substantial bone. The hind legs are muscular with well bent stifles and low hocks. The feet are oval in shape with the soles well padded and the toes are arched and close together. The neck is relatively long and slightly arched.
HEAD: The skull is broad, flat, and square, i.e. its length is the same as its width. The muzzle is the same length as the skull and the stop is relatively deep. The ears are long and hanging. The eyes are set widely apart and have a curious and vivacious expression. The teeth meet in a scissors bite.
HEIGHT: 21-22 inches for males and 20-21 inches for bitches.
COAT: It has a double coat; the outercoat is flat, harsh, and strong; the undercoat is thick, furry, and soft. This breed does not lose hair that is why it is a clean to have in the house.
COLOR: Black, blue and brown. They have a bleaching agent so with maturity the coat color may lighten to brighter tones of black, blue and brown. They have white spots but they should only appear on the muzzle, the tip of the tail, the chest, the feet, and around the neck.
 
TEMPERAMENT:
CHARACTER: They are happy, vivacious and full of life. They are confident guardian dogs. They are also very smart and they enjoy learning and working for and with their masters. They are active and enthusiast animals, not clumsy at all. They are affectionate, friendly and really charming. They are family dogs and they are not adapted to live in a dog pound or outside the house.

BEHAVIOR: By nature, they get along with everybody, but they need to socialize. They usually bark when they hear visitors and welcome them noisily but without being annoying.
 
CARE REQUIREMENTS:
 
GROOMING: It is one of the most important aspects of its care: daily brushing is needed to avoid their coat from getting tangled, but this also depends on their activity and on the place they live. For shows, their care must be more frequent and it is advisable to seek the help of experts on the matter.
TRAINING: They are intelligent and quick learners. A friendly approach will get you better results. A successful training can be based on games, a cheerful tone of voice and praises of their attitude. Do not push them so hard because they can lose their good will and receptivity.
EXERCISE: They are active and lively and they are always willing to take any kind of exercise, like taking walks on the field or on the beach where they will enjoy diving into the water. If you like jogging, take your dog along. As this breed used to be used for shepherding, it will stay at your side if you remove its leash.

USES:

Traditionally, they have worked as shepherd dogs, but today they stand out in dog sports, for example on events such as agility and catchfly. Now they are being trained to go back to their origins for them to take part on herding events. They are suitable dogs for families that enjoy sports and that do not mind brushing them often
